Overview

Clickbait Tycoon is an idle/incremental simulation game in which the player builds a clickbait media company in a pixel-art depiction of 1980s New York. Beginning with a single website and desk, the player publishes articles to generate views and ad revenue, then reinvests earnings into staff, upgrades, and new mechanics unlocked through a Research Lab system. The core loop combines active clicking with automation: players staff a newsroom across twelve hire tiers, catch trending topics, fix typos for combo streaks, publish golden articles, and respond to breaking news events by choosing to verify stories, publish immediately, or sell tips. A separate RPG layer follows a field writer through 40 quests featuring boss encounters against editors-turned-monsters, lootable gear, and click-based combat. Additional systems include an office tower with a 10x10 grid of rooms that grant permanent bonuses across resets, collectible creatures called Pocket Pals that hatch from boss-dropped eggs and can be merged and evolved, staff policies, payroll, scandals, and daily, weekly, and seasonal events. The game features two layers of prestige: selling out resets a run in exchange for permanent website bonuses, while a later buyout trades the entire empire for Legacy Shares. It includes offline progression, over 270 achievements, and cloud saves.
